Volunteer Job Descriptions

Volunteering is part of the fun!!  For our new parents, you will have the support and direction of our 'seasoned' parents!

Announcer

Announces sponsors, events, calls swimmers to the ready bench, announces shift changes for volunteers, and plays music during the meet.

Coach Dinners
Bring dinner to our wonderful coaches — between 6-730pm. Food purchased is at your own expense.

Computers

Computers: Like many other positions, the computer volunteers are vital to our operation. You will work directly with our experienced computer personnel and coaches to make sure times are entered correctly and assist in running the meets.

Concessions

We generate additional revenue for our team from concessions. These are the people who set up, serve, quench our thirst, and build our team's coffers!

At the direction of the concession stand team lead, pick up concession stand items. Items must be delivered by 7:00 am on meet day or the day before.  Set-up and sell concessions items during the meet. Great position for new families.

Floater

Requires flexibility. Check in at volunteer sign-in and will assist wherever needed.

Hospitality

Deliver water to meet officials, stroke judges, times and scribes that are on deck during a meet. Good news here though, only for home meets!

Make sure the bathrooms are stocked, pick up trash from the pool area (especially near the volunteers since they cannot leave their spots until the conclusion of their shift), Keep the pool area looking nice, and take the trash out to the big cans when the bags fill up.

Good news here though, only for home meets!

Meet Equipment Set-up/Clean-up

HEAVY LIFTING WILL BE REQUIRED!  This role is an opportunity to work on your summer body!

These are the folks who like to start their day early with a cup of coffee, early arrival 6.15AM and stay a little later after a home meet. There are lots of things that need to get put up and taken down at a swim meet. Good news here though, only for home meets!

Ready Bench

The “staging area” for swimmers before they line up behind the blocks. Bring your best teachers voice and get the kids in order to keep the meet flowing. Without the ready bench, the meet comes to a complete stand-still!

Ribbons

An old term for an important job. The top kids in each event are awarded ribbons for their achievement. This person takes a sticker from the printer and places it on the correct ribbon to be distributed to the swimmers.

Runner

Burn some calories, and get ready to say, “Excuse me” 500 times in a morning! This person takes the times from the timers and delivers them to the computer room. Here the times are entered into the computer, scored, and posted.

Swimmer Check-In

Must be at the pool by 6:45 am. Check in swimmers prior to the meet by highlighting their name on the official list and marking swimmers’ hand.

Team Parent

This position needs one parent for each male and female age group to be at a designated location where the children meet when their event is called. These people are the ones responsible for lining the swimmers in the correct order and bringing them to the ready bench. Parents will need to be available to assist with the relays and the individual events. Please designate which age group you would like to be assigned.

Timer/Scribe

Kick off your shoes, grab a stopwatch, and get an up-close view of the race. These people are located at the end of the pool. We use either a manual or semi-automatic timing system which is activated by an electronic pulse from a starting device. Finishes are recorded by buttons pushed by timers at the swimmer's finish touch, and one person per lane will be responsible for writing down the times from the two manual back-up stopwatches used in their lane. The accurate timing and recording of each swimmer's performance are essential.

Traffic

Arrive at Pool by 6:30 a.m. Place parking signs on adjacent street area. Use cones and flags to designate restricted parking areas.

Good news here though, only for home meets!
