Bulletin #4
BULLETIN #4
What a great start to our season! I hope all of our new families (and returning) had an opportunity to learn more about the what’s, the where’s, and the why’s of a swim meet. If you did not, it’s okay to ask for help…that is what the board (and returning families) are here for! Please remember that we are all volunteering for one ultimate goal…to help our children become confident, strong, efficient swimmers, all while having “a five hour playdate”!
- Monday is Picture Day!- Please wear your team suit, if you have one. We will have a staggered set of times to better accommodate our families. Order forms are available in the “Links” section on our home page. Here is the schedule:
4:25 - 5:20 - 13 & Up Swimmers & Younger Siblings
5:25 - 5:55 - 7 & Under Swimmers
6:00 - 6:40 - 7- 8 & Younger Siblings
6:45 - 7:25 - 9 - 10 & Younger Siblings
7:30 - 8:15 - 11 - 12 & Younger Siblings
So for example, if you have two children ages 5 and 8, you would bring both children anytime between the 6:00pm - 6:40pm (7 - 8 time) practice time. Of course, these are just guidelines so that no one will have to wait too long. If you cannot come exactly during your scheduled time, just come by when you can.
- Last Chance to Complete Time Trials- Monday will also be the last day to get times for your swimmers for any events. The pool will be available for the swimmers, and parents will be responsible for getting their times. Recording forms will be available, and we will be entering the data as the forms are turned in. We will not have regularly scheduled practice on Monday.
- T-Shirts- Our team shirts are ready! We will be distributing them on Monday, after your child takes his/her picture. We strongly recommend writing names on the inside of the shirt with Sharpie as soon as you get it, as swimmers tend to leave them laying around during the meets. We will also be accepting pre-orders for a light weight women’s tank top.
- Meet Entry vs. RSVP- In order to be officially registered in the meet, you will need to select the events for your swimmers. Use the first icon that looks like a swimmer. You can select up to 3 individual events. Relay teams will be selected by the coaches. You can find detailed procedures for signing up on our website under Swim Meets- Sign Up Procedures. You can also RSVP for the meet by using the RSVP icon, but this is really only necessary if you need to leave some sort of note for the coaches, such as “We have to leave by 11:00” or “Please don’t make me swim fly on the relay!” RSVPing alone will NOT enter your swimmer in the meet. We were able to add swimmers in for the time trial meet, but in a real meet, this is not allowed. If you have any questions, just ask! Meet entries must be received by Monday at midnight.
- Meet Entries Must Be Received by Monday at Midnight!- If you miss this deadline (please don’t!), you can contact Laura at [email protected] .
- Mobile Devices- I have had several people tell me that our web platform (swim-team.us) does not play nice with mobile devices. If you are having any trouble with your meet entries, please try it from a desktop/laptop.
- Volunteering- We have a few volunteer slots still open for the meet on Saturday. You may sign up to help until Tuesday at midnight. After that, the volunteer commitments are locked so that we avoid last minute changes.
- Announcer- Event 41 until meet end (a music playlist will be provided)
- Hospitality- Need a volunteer for first shift and two for second shift
- Groundskeeper- I have added a job for a volunteer to just make sure the pool area is looking nice throughout the meet. You will make sure restrooms are stocked and trash is pulled as needed. It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it! It will be a very flexible job, just completed “as needed” during the meet.
- Exxon Mobil- If you are employed by Exxon Mobil, please get in contact with Ann Leger. She facilitates applying for volunteer grants when we are eligible. She can give you all of the details.
- Home Meet this Saturday!- We are so excited to be hosting a home meet once again. Our team will be set up near the lake, on what used to be the beach area. Carrabba’s will be serving up some delicious food, and we are looking forward to a great day. Please be mindful of the parking expectations, parking only on the “lake” side of the street and parking far enough away from fire hydrants and stop signs.
- Sign In- Remember that swimmers must “circle in” between 6:45-7:10. If your swimmer has not circled in and accounted for by 7:10, he/she will likely be scratched from the meet. If you are running late, text Sarah (713-398-6522) or Mary (713-301-1014).
- Event Numbers- As most of you saw on Saturday, we do ask that swimmers write their event numbers on their forearm with Sharpie. We recommend that you know the event numbers for your swimmers, and you can even write the numbers in advance if you would like. To find out the event numbers, just go back to the Meet Entry icon. You will also be able to see relays once they are added. Usually the meet events are finalized by Wednesday night and exchanged with the opposing team on Thursday.
- And finally, Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!
